I would just get a used LP Standard. Better resale value. Not doubting Carvin's quality. I played one of their Teles with their strange lookin' humbuckers and loved it. But I wonder how I would feel about that guitar today as I compare it to my current humbucker guitars. Hmm.

Well, I know tastes and preferences change, and what I consider good tone and playability in a guitar must evolve too. I would like to think I have more experience with humbucker guitars now than I did then when I played that Carvin. So I'm curious how I would react to that Carvin Tele now with what I know and whom I am now. For example, I have a Tele that's been modified with two humbuckers (a Telegib if you will). It's actually the top left guitar in the UGF sign at the top of this page. I hated that guitar when I first got it (but it was so damn cheap). Way too dark and muddy for me then. But after acquiring a few more humbucker guitars, it's the guitar that I like to play and leave out in the living room. Being that it's already somewhat beat up and a Fender, I don't worry about it as much as I do with the Gibsons with my 2.5 year-old daughter around. I like the SD Jazz and JB combo in it too.

Thanks for the reply. I bought a used Carvin Bolt on ebay (Swamp Thang) which used to belong to a guy named Van on the Carvin boards. It had been completely modified with Kingman Pups and a countered neck heel. I love it and the tone is great. I also got a used Holdsworth guitar which also sounds great. But the DC127 had the worst most sterile tone I ever had. I sold it on ebay 2 years ago and never looked back. Based on this, I would believe their neck through guitars sound worse than the bolts or glued in necks. I doubt I would go with a neck through from them again. That is why this one interested me although it was steep in price.
