Ok, Ive settled in on guitars. Im loving what I have and too broke to buy anything else. I decided to focus on putting the rest of my rig together. I have alot of pedals that I basically put in storage years ago so that I could stop playing with the pedals and learn the guitar. I bought the pedals I can really use now, a delay and tubescreamer. And I have a amp that I really like. ( I ultimately want a Splawn Quickrod, but have no funds) I still dont get the sounds that I think I should be getting with the JCM800. I know my playing is still lacking, but there is part of the tone picture that is still lacking. From having chats with some seasoned guys, I think maybe my cabinet may be to blame.
I use a Carvin MTS 4x12 with the CArvin british series speakers.
I believe the cab is well constructed. I did research before I bought it, but I ultimately bought it for the low price.
Now, Ive heard the Carvin speakers are turkeys. Ive also heard first hand how much difference a speaker can make on tone. I changed the speaker in my classic 30 to an Eminence private jack..
So, here is my delimma. (delimmas?)
Should I buy another cab or just change speakers?
In either case, I dont know what speakers to get.
I got the private jack cuz Ive always loved recordings where the player uses greenbacks. However, the speaker in my classic 30 breaks up almost too much.
So, should I get 4 greenbacks? 4 vintage 30s? 2 of each??
Im talking celestion for reference, but after I determine direction, Ill need help with brand..
please help!
my ideal tone and style Im going for is heavy blues, rock/metal.
I LOVE Billy Duffy's sonic temple and one of my favorite things to listen to and what I want to do is this:
I love both the playing and the tone of this.

and
I love this!!

this example is for the style more than tone.
Tonewise, I love the hollow bark (honk?) that seems to come from modded marshalls or splawns..
This is the tone I LOVE!
