What is the value of modded 84 Jcm 800 50 watt? Does the 50 watters achieve the typical 80s sound? Or is that normally the 100 watters? I was always under the impression the hair bands all used 100 watts. I didnt even know until recently that they came also in 50 watt ones. this one is modded by Matt wells if that means anything Ive wanted one for a long time. Someone offered to trade me one for my LP studio. fair trade??
thanks

yes definitely a fair trade... they normally go for $800-1000. I don't know who Mat Wells is though.. what kind of mods were done to the amp?
Oh, btw, JCM800s sound good when played LOUD.. at low volumes they sound thin and shrill.. plan to get a good attenuator to use with it.

The guy went and got alil greedy and wants $1200. (lp and about $400) No deal. Id have prob gone with the LP, but I am flat broke.. He said the mods are actually geared more toward sounding like a Jubilee..

not worth it.. 800s are overrated anyway IMHO.. $1200 for one is insane

Yeah, I would have prob done a trade, but not with the extra. A) I have 00 cash and B) too much
I LOVE the sound of 80s metal, but every time I play a JCM 800 at like guitar center, Im disappointed. I want that sound in an amp I dont have to play wide open..
I like the Kerry King marshall, but cant play $1800 for the head. Ive considered going for a Splawn.. I wish they would make a JCM800 jr. Like those little Rev amps.. Get "that 80s metal" tone in a 20watt amp.

What is the JCM800 sound? I don't think it's a sound I prefer, but I'm wondering if it's a recognizable sound. Any famous songs that have the quintessential JCM800 sound, meaning, guitar straight into amp sound?

hmm I dont know who has a Straight to jcm 800 setup, but nearly all the 80s hair boyz used stacks of them..
Im finding that many of them were hot rodded.

See? That's my point. I think Randy Rhoads used JCM800s but I think he had a Boss DS-1 in between. And, man, I always thought his tone was thin.
I think Hendrix used a Strat straight into a Marshall for "The Wind Cries Mary" but I don't know which Marshall. I don't think JCMs even existed at that time. Okay, that tone I can dig, not my favorite, but I can dig.
I think Jeff Beck was a simple Marshall guy too but I don't know which model.

Hendrix ran plexis cranked and he used a fuzz face in front for those real dirty parts

Rhoads was playing JMPs and MXR distortion boxes.. he ran the amps clean and got his gain from the pedals...
Now most of the 80's metal tone (Ratt, Dokken, Jake E Lee, Zakk Wylde etc...) are JCM800s, not straight into the amp but then again most hard rock players don't go straight into ANY amp, there are always pre/post effects....

The mods done to this JCM 800 are fully reversible. Ads more gain and more low end to combat the shrillness. The guy that did the mods is the house guy at the Magic shop recording studio in New york. He isnt a big name, but supposedly has cred.

He sent me a clip of this one and it doesnt sound thin. The mod gives it more distortion and more bottom end. And it doesnt have to be WFO to sound good. G heard the clip. sounded good huh? Anyhow, the guy came off the price and I sold a guit and made it happen.. Up to about 7 on the gain, its AC/dc level, after that it gets nasty... The amp is both less forgiving AND more dynamic than Im used to. This should make me a better player. on my current rig, I cant hear alot of difference between downstrokes and upstrokes, on the JCM, there is a ton of difference..

I thought this was your favorite amp: First, let me say, Id trade all my gear (Id have to keep at least one) to be able to play like you do!!! Second, Really? these are your fav amps? I figured that Laney prob was. Im kinda suprised that a PV is on your list. I know you did say you liked it on your youtube clip. This JCM800 is a 2205 50watter. This is the very one I sent you that sound byte of.
