are walnut guitars nice? I see carvin makes some and I wondered how this wood differed from other woods in terms of sound.

IMO, for electrics, wood type doesn't matter much - wood density has more of a bearing, but in the long run it's the pickup's that count most in terms of gear - it's yer brain and fingers that count most of all. True acoustic guitars are a total different story - the wood genus and density plays an important part of the build and tone equations.

I do hear a noticeable difference between different body woods... necks and fretboard, not at all, but bodies, yes definitely.
Having said that I have no real experience with Walnut guitars.

It all makes a difference. Some things big, some things slight....but everything contributes.
Me personally....I have no desire for a walnut guitar. Might make a pretty laminate for a headstock or something.

I don't know.... I'm not saying they wouldn't or couldn't be good. Maybe it's because it's so dark (visually). I'm not crazy about the rosewood tele idea either. I think Alembic used to use walnut in their guitars and basses.
