Man, I'm building up a hefty jones for a 5th Ave (and I don't mean the candy bar!) - killer little blues/jazz/ragtime machine ... ... and add in a P90 like the Kingpin ...

Just bought the cognac (tea) one for $441.15 from Music123 - they've got 15% off on almost everything, with free shipping.

Got an email from M123 that the cognac flavor is back ordered, so I cruised the site again to select the natural and they had a blem cognac for $383/delivered. Yeah, I bought it. Had to. Due to arrive tomorrow. Review to follow ...

Great price!! That alot less than normal? Look forward to the review! Blems can be a great way to go.. Its pretty common for the issue to be almost non noticable.

Street price on the 5th Ave is $519/shipped, so if the blem itself isn't too bad and the neck angle is good it'll be a bargain, maybe, if it's worthy, will know by tomorrow afternoon. Kent already built me the floating ultra thin humbucker for it, single coil voiced, good for blues 'n' jazz. Just checked and MF and M123 are sold out of 5th Aves.

Where / how do you put that pickup on Rob?

The pickguard gets cutout to allow the pup pole pieces to line up with the strings, the pup's tab is epoxied to the underside of the pickguard. In the pic below I reused existing mini pots that were on the p/g, but with the 5th Ave I'm installing thumbwheel pots (vol and tone) that allow the adjustment wheel to barely stick out beyond the lower rear edge of the pickguard. And instead of drilling the body side for a jack, I'll use a strapjack. In essence, all you'll see is the floating pickup and there are no holes or screws into the guitar top.

Just got the "blem" cognac in this morning - geez, it's a steal for the $519 street price and for the $383 I paid it's beyond stolen. What a great little box that's extremely well crafted, as is all of monsieur Godin's instrument offerings. The tone with pb acoustic strings is as expected - a more treble-oriented bass tone with crisp singing highs, the action and intonation was easy to adjust to perfection, and the "blem" appears to be a very slight hair-like scratch on the side of the headstock which is a snap to correct. I have plotted out the mods and will begin some time next week: custom Kent floating pickup, pickguard thumbwheel vol and tone pots, strapjack, 11-50 flatwounds.
