Is it possible to modify a pedal with a jack to switch the effect on/off with a remote footswitch?? I was thinking of doing that to keep my audio cables short (especially for the effects that go through the loop)

First I didn't get what you were trying to get at. But I think I understand. You want to keep your effects as close as possible to the amp with short audio cables, but have a long remote on/off footswitch. I get it.
I've seen a professional version where all the effects sit in a tray in a rack, and the footswitches are all in a single box on stage.

exactly, I want to mount my pedals on a rack tray and control them from the front of the stage, I was looking into one of the high-end system you are taking about (ground control, axess etc) but it is overkill since I only use 3 pedals, so I just want to modify the units

Yes and no. It can be done passively, but a long audio cable would be required and wouldn't that defeat the purpose of keeping the signal close to the amp(s)? Lo-Z buffering the switch would be one way around that. So, it would be best to use a remote switching panel.

(kinda like switching channels on an amp..)

yeah ... is this a hard mod to do?

yeah ... is this a hard mod to do? Typically - there needs to be a buncha room in the pedal to add the switching electronics. Better off with an external switching panel with banks of switches.

Re-box 'em! Get a box, drill holes, and install all the circuitry in it. Then you'll have plenty of room for mods.

I thought you used a rack setup, g.
Don't those usually have a switch matrix for the floor...maybe with some auxilliary switches for pedals?

no I gave up on racks a while ago..
nowadays I'm actually going straight into the amp... but I wanted to add a delay and maybe a tremolo through the loop
